On the afternoon of 18 January 1985, the northern suburbs of Brisbane were struck by a severe storm. At the time, there was only one aircraft on the international apron, Boeing 747-238B VH-EBJ which was parked on Bay 4 after having diverted to Brisbane the previous day because of bad weather in Fiji. During the storm, several empty containers were scattered by the high winds. It is believed that the destroyed main deck cargo container depicted (AQ69071QF) is the same ULD which established a distance record, mechanically unassisted, when it "flew" from the storage yard south of Bay 5 to the open area north of Bay 1, having travelled over VH-EBJ without striking the aircraft. VH-EBJ departed for Fiji the following day. AQ69071QF was scrapped. Picture: Ron Cuskelly (Y239)
