Smithy's famous Fokker F.VIIb/3m Southern Cross leaves its home of 30 years on 18 November 1987 as it is towed to its new home on Airport Drive opposite the new International Terminal. To preserve the original mainwheels they have been replaced by Canberra nosewheels. The tail skid is supported on a dolly for the purposes of the tow. To facilitate removal of the glass front wall of the building, the roof was supported by a temporary external truss. The towing operation was conducted by personnel from No 3 Aircraft Depot at RAAF Amberley.Picture: Ron Cuskelly
